Robert B. Lisek

Robert B. LISEK is an artist, mathematician and composer who focuses on systems and processes (computational, biological, social). He is involved in the number of projects focused on radical art strategies, hacktivism and tactical media. Drawing upon conceptual art, software art and meta-media, his work intentionally defies categorization. Lisek is a pioneer of art based on AI and bioinformatics. Lisek is also a composer of contemporary music, author of many projects and scores on the intersection of spectral, stochastic, concret music, musica futurista and noise: http://lisek.bandcamp.com/
Lisek is also a scientist who conducts a research in the area of foundations of mathematics and computer science. His research interests are theory of ordered sets, logic, algebra, category theory in relation with artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Lisek is a founder of Institute for Research in Science and Art, Fundamental Research Lab and ACCESS Art Symposium. Author of many exhibitions and concerts, among others: QUANTUM ENIGMA - Harvestworks Center New York and STEIM Amsterdam; TERROR ENGINES - WORM Center Rotterdam, Secure Insecurity - ISEA Istanbul; DEMONS - Venice Biennale (accompanying events); Manifesto vs. Manifesto - Ujazdowski Castel of Contemporary Art, Warsaw; NGRU - FILE, Sao Paulo; NEST - ARCO Art Fair, Madrid; Float - DMAC Harvestworks and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, NYC; WWAI - Siggraph, Los Angeles; Falsecodes - Red Gate Gallery, Beijing; Gengine - National Gallery, Warsaw; Flextex - Byzantine Museum, Athens, FXT- ACA Media Festival, Tokyo and ISEA, Nagoya.

SELECTED PROJECTS

radiation In BB-VR_Modulator project I am using a brain-machine interface (BMI), which reads the activity of cerebral cortex that is subsequently used as a source of number sequences. The final project uses two human brains. Signals from one brain are sent to the other and back on the basis of brain to brain interface (VR helmets). [BB_VRmodulator]
radiation It is a real time system, which encompasses movement of bodies, performative cycles of transmission/reception and programming trough modulation of electric and magnetic energies and light, allowing for modification of the dynamics of space. [unrendered]
radiation Quantum Enigma consists of installation, action and program, whose goal is to extend the notion of art by dealing with randomness. I reveal the process of radioactive decay as the best and strongest manifestation of the idea of randomness.

[QEM]

radiation ERS is an open collaborative research project, which investigates hidden physical processes: electromagnetic waves, ionic radiation etc. The project investigates the effect of electromagnetic waves and radiation on living organisms.

[eRs]

prime engine The work is a directed-energy 'weapon' that emits strong sound waves and laser light (electromagnetic radiation) rapidly propagated in a special gas inside a metal shipping container.

[pEnginE]

capital The project is a prototypical new program, which combines the activity of a computer virus and biological viruses. Sequence of numbers (obtained from any biological or physical detector) introduced by the user is subjected to transformation and destruction through the use of viruses.

[viral#C]

nest NEST is a toolkit to explore data, track events, find patterns, and build risk profiles, all in an effort to encourage and motivate action. We like to think of it as a Citizen's Intelligence Agency, giving people similar tools and technologies to those held by their government.

[ne5t]

Spectrum SPECTRUM explores the relationship between bio-molecular and network technologies. The projectt aims to represent the self-replicating behavior of bacteria in order to draw out its wider bio-political significance in an imagined scenario of bioterrorism.

[spectrum]

gggru GGGRU is a web worm that is spying and analyzing large data sets. The project is a social experiment that deals with hidden data, systems that reacts in a very short time and security panic. RARL is looking for data concerning bio-terrorism tactics, synthetic life, new bacteria, epidemic, across several agencies.

[GGGRUworm]

crash The project deals with the problem of intense processing of big data collections (including internet sites), data from innumerable sources, whose interpretation is clearly beyond human processing abilities.

[crash]

Manifesto Manifesto vs Manifesto — performance, concert, lecture, publication of Crash [Manifesto] and Italian Transhumanist Manifesto.

[MvsM]

Transhuman The project deals with possible extensions of homo sapiens, as well as the overruns and related risks. Extensions through the use of radical artistic and transgressive methods that arise at the intersection of disciplines such as artificial intelligence, bioengineering, and social sciences.

[transhuman]

gengine The first part of project SUPRAMIND that aims to build a general-purpose intelligent system based on a visual inference engine which allows us to solve problems by extracting new information from existing.

[gengine]

face The FACE is a portable knowledge management environment that can be used as a distributed network for creating, modeling and exchanging artistic concepts.

[face]

float The FLOAT is an experimental collective software space, the multi user hyperstructure kit, the program equiped with ability of gathering information and learning during the interaction. [float]
flextext FleXtexT is an original software (part of the art installation), which serves to create a flexible, dynamic and distributive textural space, by using attractors and a new kind of links based on the partially ordered sets.

[ftxt]

stack The STACK is a collective, dynamical installation that allows small groups of participants to interact with virtual objects, and with each other.

[stack]

chifr The EL-CIPHER is a collection of cryptographic algorithms and protocols [eLCipher]
work The workshop of sound and image construction [workshop]
noise ACCESS #8 noise radio [Anoise]
